The Night That Was – 89th Academy Awards

Last night’s 89th Academy Awards was another night, which gave us the opportunity to gush over celebrities walking the red carpet in their glamorous ensembles. Apart from all that glam, emotional speeches and an unprecedented mishap, there were some memorable moments which everyone got to witness at the Oscars.

Here is a glimpse of few such moments which will be remembered until next time!

  1. Indian Representation  

Dev Patel decided to bring his mother along with him and won hearts all over, Priyanka Chopra made her presence felt all by herself as always, Sunny Parmar was a treat to the eyes in his tuxe and sneaker combination and Deepika Padukone graced the pre-oscar party in a rather peppy dress.

2. The Artists Behind Mowgli’s World 

The Jungle Book took away the award for Best Visual Effects and it did make us leap in joy. After all, Mowgli was an important part of most of our childhood.

3. Goofy Couples on the Red Carpet 

Justin Timberlake was his goofy self with his girlfriend Jessica Biel. John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen were rather cute, as they shared an adorable moment!

4. From La La Land to Moonlight 

Biggest goof up happened when award for La La Land was announced for the Best Picture category, which was later awarded to Moonlight after all the confusion. However, the very endearing Emma Stone won an award for Best Actress for her role in La La Land.

5. ‘First’s’ which we will hopefully get to see more of in future! 

Viola Davis, who had never won an Oscar before, was presented an award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences. She is the first Black actor to have won an Oscar and her touchy acceptance speech did make everyone shed a tear. Mahershala Ali also made history as he bagged the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Moonlight and became the First Muslim actor to win an Academy award. Iranian film The Salesman had a moment of pride, as it was presented with the award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Late Actor Om Puri was part of the Memoriam tribute, as he was remembered among other Hollywood stars who passed away in 2016.
