Simple lines, clean-cut silhouettes, earthy and rustic hues are few words which best describe Samant Chauhan‘s designs. His unusual and creative contemporary creations have created a niche for him in the fashion industry and his knitware work is very famous for its ingenuity.
You will mostly find him dressed casually in denims, shirts, unbuttoned t-shirts and sports shoes to complete his look. However, that doesn’t make him less skilled in his field of work. Samant Chauhan is an alumnus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Since his college days at NIFT, he had decided his work to speak for itself rather than his individual style. At his graduation show in 2004, he won 3 awards for most innovative fabric development and best design collection. He worked on multiple projects right from his college days. He also worked at an export house called RMX Joss for one year, where he gained managerial skills and learnt the tastes of international big names like Armani exchange, Malboro Classic, Tommy Hilfigre among others.
His name is also amongst the 12 selected star alumni of NIFT and it’s the best award for him till date. He made his first international mark at the Singapore Fashion Week – Asian Young Designer Contest ’05 where he presented his prize winning collection, which also received rave reviews from many international fashion journalists including Collin Mc Dowell.
Samant Chauhan hails from the state of Bihar, which never gave him a tough time in terms of his association with the state, but he came across some incidents. That’s when he decided to introduce Bhagalpuri silk to mainstream fashion.
At the latest Amazon Fashion Week, he showcased his spring/summer 2017 collection which boasted of traditional embroidery which added femininity and royalty to each ensemble.
