Masaba Gupta – Eccentric, Bold and Quirky

Masaba Gupta is a young fashion designer who is known for her quirky sensibilities. The meaning of ‘Masaba’ is ‘wild flower’ in African language and this is also reflected in her work which is wild in essence. She launched her eponymous label in 2010 and achieved phenomenal success. Her designs are apt for women who love fresh colours and textures.

Masaba is one designer who made a mark for herself in the fashion industry which is full of stalwarts. She made her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer in 2010 in the GenNext category and displayed her first couture collection ‘Kattran’. She also bagged the title of ‘Most Promising Designer’ and then went on to open her flagship store in Mumbai.

Since then, there are many bollywood celebrities who swear by her creations. Sonam Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and Bipasha Basu are ardent fans of Masaba designs, particularly her sarees. Masaba’s USP lies in the use of quirky prints, lots of colors and feminine silhouettes, keeping the designs traditionally rooted.

In 2013, Masaba debuted for Satya Paul at the Lakme Fashion Week after working on the brand’s new fashion line for one year. She was also made the Creative Director of Satya Paul, the youngest till date. Her aim was to make the designs more youthful to make it more popular among females below the age of 30, by using lipstick prints, ink blot and telephone booth prints and abstract designs was a success.
