Bollywood’s Tryst With Traditional Drape

The Indian saree has always been the most exceptional attire in the wardrobe of Indian women. Versatile, stylish and rooted to tradition – these are a few ways to describe the quintessential Saree.

Our Bollywood industry has always revered this beautiful garment through its various movies. From conveying a symbolic gesture to adding grace to a dream-like dance sequence to giving a sensual appeal to the character. Saree is that garment which has played different roles on-screen also. Here are some movies which celebrated this beautiful drape at it’s glorious best –

  1. Devdas 

Being a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, it’s no surprise that the costumes were exceptional and truly defined class and elegance. Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit were at their charming best in sarees draped in Bengali style.

3. Main Hoon Na

Full on entertainment, this movie was a treat for all the Sushminta Sen fans. Clad in beautiful sarees, she brought life to the screen with her beauty and grace.

4. Chennai Express

A comical drama, this movie shows the journey of a north-Indian man and his south-Indian love interest. Deepika Padukone’s sarees were the highlight throughout the film.

5. English Vinglish 

Shashi’s character was adorably portrayed by Sridevi Kapoor and it was a story many women from simple Indian households could relate to. Her choicest collection of sarees is what the audience admired the most.
